Japan’s EV Potential

Kyoto, Japan

We’ve been in Japan for the last week and wanted to share some thoughts.

Despite over 40% of new car sales being #Hybrid in Japan, the country is seemingly stalling, with #electricvehicles making up <2% of new car sales. EV Stealth Solutions would like to see this accelerated for both adoption and creation. Particularly for a country who have been pioneers in both the tech and auto industry for so many decades.

Who remembers the Sony #Walkman and #discman? What about the #casio calculator watches? or even the Nintendo #gameboy? All were some of Japan’s greatest exports that demonstrated an endless innovation hub.

Then we look at Japan’s classic vehicle models that changed the landscape of our roads in the 80’s and 90’s. Who remembers the Toyota Motor Corporation Camry? The Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Lancer and Mirage? Suzuki Auto Service Swift or the #Honda Civic and Accord? What about the Subaru Australia WRX Impressa or Daihatsu Charade? And that's just to name a few!

On top of this, Japanese Nobel Prize Winner, Akira Yoshino, created the first safe and production-viable lithium-ion battery which completely transformed the way we use mobile phones and laptop computers.

Now can you imagine the global #EV influence of Japan when they combine their technological innovation, with their automotive capabilities?

Despite the success of the Nissan Motor Corporation's #Leaf since its release in 2010, Tesla surpassed the Leaf's all-time sales volume in just 2 years and BYD now has the largest market share for EV’s across Asia.

We’ve observed some aggressive marketing for EV‘s during our time here in Japan, so there is a noticeable push. The government is also making it mandatory that by 2035, all new car sales will be Clean Energy Vehicles (CEV’s).

We can’t wait to see what the future of #Japan holds for the #EV market. Not only the adoption rate locally, but also how the Japanese car manufacturers adapt and evolve. By partnering with their leading technology and innovation companies, Japan has all the ingredients to be an absolute powerhouse in the EV space.

We are watching with so much anticipation and excitement…..
